Health Champions are the shining stars of Healthy Living Pharmacies
Health Champions are usually healthcare assistants, dispensing assistants or technicians who are patient-facing and have been trained and achieved the Royal Society for Public Health (RPSH) Understanding Health Improvement Level 2 award. This role and qualification is recognised by other health providers and public health commissioners.
Their key role is to pro-actively provide people with information about their health and wellbeing and signpost them to services that will help them adopt healthier lifestyles and access the support they need.
It is a key requirement for any pharmacy wishing to become an HLP to have at least one Health Champion
(full-time equivalent) as part of their pharmacy team. Any member of the pharmacy team can become a Health Champion and there aren’t any specific entry requirements but we have provided further guidance available by clicking here. Many HLPs train all their team as Health Champions including their delivery drivers who interact with some of the most vulnerable people in their homes.
Pharmacy Complete is an accredited RSPH training centre and we offer an engaging distance-learning Health Champion course (about 8 learning hours) which complies with the RSPH 2017 syllabus plus a number of other training courses, workshops and resources for those wishing to develop their knowledge and skills further.
Our training course will increase the communication skills of the individual and enable them to enhance and promote health and wellbeing effectively. It’s important for the Health Champion to feel confident to engage with their customers pro-actively about what can be some very sensitive issues.
