Community pharmacy’s role in the national flu service is making a real difference in increasing both access and the number of people receiving this important health protection measure. Pharmacy continues to demonstrate to the NHS that it is a highly effective provider of the flu vaccination service to at-risk people.
The role of the Flu Champion is an important one. Individuals have the knowledge and confidence to promote the service to their customers, patients and the community in which they work. They can support the recruitment of people into the service, answer questions about it and help with the paperwork. In addition, they can give customers important advice about preventing flu, protecting themselves against flu and how to treat. This frees up the pharmacist’s time to complete the clinical assessment and provide the actual vaccination.
Our unique distance-learning Flu Champion course provides an individual with the knowledge and confidence to more actively get involved. They cover the fundamentals of flu and the national service, the role of the Flu Champion, how to approach customers, and how to run a promotional campaign. The learning takes about 3-4 hours and assessment is through an online multiple-choice questionnaire. Successful candidates receive a certificate and badge.
We can also run Flu Champion events for pharmacy groups, Local Pharmaceutical Committees and public health/NHS commissioners. For more information please connect with us.
