Pharmacy Leadership Development
Leadership has not traditionally been taught in pharmacy schools, however pharmacists and pharmacy managers must be operating as leaders in their practice and business.
Leaders are responsible for developing their team to perform their tasks effectively. Leaders must engage and inspire employees to believe in their company and their work, pushing them to excel and helping them along the way. Leaders need to know when to step in and when to let go. They need to show the way, set the tone and model the right behaviours for success. This is even more challenging in a context of uncertainty, rapid change, complex decision-making and lack of clear direction.
The new NHS plan and the new community pharmacy contractual framework requires effective engagement with other local pharmacies and with Primary Care Networks (PCNs). Effective Communication and Engagement is a leadership development programme which builds on our previous award-winning HLP Leadership course, Developing and motivating your team, now discontinued.
We have already run a number of face-to-face and online events for Local Pharmaceutical Committees to develop the knowledge and capability of over 300 PCN Pharmacy Leads with excellent feedback. Two delegates at the Kent LPC event said:
"Great day yesterday, thanks ever so much. I sent an email to my local surgery asking if he could put me in touch with Clinical Director, he emailed him for me , the CD replied to me and invited me to set a meeting, which I've done!"
"The training was just what was needed to enthuse our lead pharmacists to be leaders, to unite colleagues and to reach out to the PCN clinical directors looking for new, innovative ways of working for patients benefit."
Delegates from Kent who attended the two evening virtual workshops in November 2020 said:
"Great insight into leadership roles, listening & communication styles & incorporating SPIN strategy into building relationships and influencing."
"I felt the breakout rooms were excellent and considering the training was via video due to the current restrictions, I never felt myself switching off due to Deborah and Michael's excellent presentations of the subject areas."
In October 2020 we ran a virtual half-day workshop for Barnsley LPC and their PCN Leads:
"It doesn't matter if you are a gnarly old timer with years of experience or a newly qualified pharmacist the Pharmacy Complete PCN Lead Development Workshop is the perfect forum for getting ready to engage with Primary Care Networks. You are guaranteed to learn something about yourself, your colleagues and how you may need to flex your communication style to get the best out of negotiations."
We have extensive experience of leading at a national level and have developed leadership programmes which contain the tools and techniques that they know work. Our leadership development courses are practical, relevant and designed for community pharmacy by pharmacists who understand.
Things have never been tougher for community pharmacy; effective leadership at every level has never been more important. Take the next step and let us help you to help others...
