The way forward

Over the last two weeks we have helped organise and chaired the Pharmacy Business Conference, attended the Pharmacy Business awards, exhibited and spoken in 5 sessions at the Pharmacy Show and listened to many pharmacy owners and their teams. The one strong message that is coming up from grass roots pharmacy is the need for a clear and singular vision supported by an effective plan for the way forward for community pharmacy.

One message, one vision, one plan

Pharmacy must quickly develop and demonstrate collaborative leadership at all levels – individual professionals, pharmacy practices, LPCs and pharmacy bodies. It is glaringly obvious that this is not currently in place, in fact we are probably in the worst place from this perspective for 10 years. The ‘top’ is not reflecting or representing the ‘bottom’ and this needs joining up. Individual and organisational egos need to be put aside and we must work together towards a common goal and with some urgency. Pharmacy Voice has gone, but the ambition of one voice, or at least one message about one vision and one plan must not be lost in the fight for kudos and turf.

A healthier future for community pharmacy and the professions is everyone’s business!
